The state legislature of California voted in 2006 to replace the statue with Ronald Reagan, using a Senate Joint Resolution process more typically associated with nonbinding resolutions. It was a move at the end of a legislative session and there was no debate or discussion. Lots on the web on this under "Starr king statue." Real question is, where is the statue now, and what is going to happen to it?

The statue is being returned to California, where it will take a new place of honor on the 2nd floor landing of the historic Capitol Building. For more information, see http://www.capitolmuseum.ca.gov/detail.aspx?content2=2730&content3=2728
