In a multiplexed bus system, many devices are connected to
a common bus. If 2 or more devices attempt to use the bus
at the same time , then data will be lost. Thus only one
one device must be allowed to use the bus at a time. One
method is to connect the devices through tri-state
devices , which when disabled will effectively disconnect
devices from the bus.
Tri-state devices have three output modes; low, high, and open. They are essential in a bus oriented system because several can be connected together and, so long as only one at a time is turned on, then any of them can be used to drive the bus.
A tristate device is a device that has three states instead of two. The normal states are low and high, where the output is pulled down or up by turning on one of the two output transistors. The third state is floating, where neither transistor is turned on. Tristate devices are useful in a bus design where, for instance, more than one device can drive a data bus, but only one at a time.

For example a thermometer.
That amount is always less than the energy you put into the system. Divide the amount of useful energy you get from a system by the amount of energy you put into it, and you find the system's 'efficiency'.
