War and Peace is possibly one of the greatest novels ever written. It is the story of a war, but it is also a story about people and how they relate to one another. You can really engage with the plot and empathise with the characters, from the disillusioned Prince Andrew Bolkonski to the idealistic Count Pierre Bezukhov to the impulsive, loveable Countess Natasha Rostov. It can be exciting, humorous and sad, sometimes all at once. I'm currently around half way through it and I'd definitely recommend it - don't be put off by the length! I just can't put it down.
