Russia had dropped out of the war due to the signing of the Treaty of Brest-Litovsk. Germany no longer had to fight a two front war, and now only faced war on the western front. Things now looked good for Germany, however they made a terrible mistake; the Zimmerman Note. This got the United States involved in the war, and ultimately led to Germany's defeat in 1918.
