Because Africans wern't as "Technologicaly Advanced" as Europeans, so Europeans thought that Africans wern't as smart. After that, they started selling them to America as slaves and a lot of times they would talk slow, because they don't know the language very well. Because of that, Americans thought that Blacks were stupid, and they didn't like them, even after they wern't slaves any more. Also, in the 1930's, White were used to being better than blacks, because they just recently got out of slavery, so they thought black people shouldn't have as many rights.

At first, blacks were not allowed to serve in the American military. Later, when the North needed more soldiers, they tapped into the Black population, but even then, the Black units were discriminated against. They received little to no training, poor equipment; they often were not issued uniforms, and they were made to do manual labor. Some units did get a chance to fight, and when they did they were fearless warriors and helped win the war against the South.
