Aussies were also involved in the 2nd Battle of the Somme in 1918. That was where my great grandfather was killed as a machine gunner in the Australian army. I would note that at the 1st Battle of the Somme, there were also New Zealanders, Canadians (including Newfoundlanders), and possibly Indians and South Africans. There were also Vietnamese and Indian porters, some of whom were killed. I also suspect that the French forces would have included troops from their various African colonies.
