It is doubtful that he was homeless. While he was not from a wealthy family, he seems to have lived a lower-middle-class life at first (his biological parents were both college students), and then later, he lived a solidly middle-class life with his grandparents.

When he attended college, he had room-mates at the dorms. And when he married, he and his wife got a small house, where they could raise their daughters. And although for a time, he worked as an advocate for the homeless in Chicago, I do not see evidence that the president himself was ever homeless.
