At the time of the Battle of Britain, France had fallen and the Soviet Union and The United States had not yet entered the war. Despite this, it should be noted that several of the pilots and other men who fought in the Battle of the Britain were not British. It should also be noted that several of those pilots were Polish, from a government that never surrendered to the Germans and was ruling in exile from London. Because of the presence of these soldiers, it could be argued that Britain was not, in fact, ever alone in facing the Germans.
By the end of 1940, Germany had conquered just about every country that had previously opposed it. The one country left unconquered was Great Britain, thanks in large part to the fact that it was protected by the English Channel.
The Fall of France in June 1940 left Britain fighting alone in Europe.

Left the country for Britain and Canada.
On the island of Great Britain the country to the west of England is Wales
The enemies of Germany in World War I were Britain, France, Russia (left in 1916), America (joined when Russia left) and Italy (joined in 1914). Also Serbia & Romania were enemies of Germany.
It didn't, or not just then anyway. What Germany wanted in 1914 was for Britain to stay neutral while Germany crushed France and Russia and so gained full control of Europe. This was of course impossible, since it would have left Britain facing a continent united under the rule of her most dangerous rival, who might then have used Europe's resources to build a navy larger than the British. Hence the British declaration of war on 4 August 1914.

Italy bailed out of the Triple Alliance before the war got really going. They did participate in the fighting on the Allied side.
