James Burbage was an Englishman alive during the 16th century. He was an actor and he had the vision of building the first theater in London (called, The Theatre). He was a contemporary to Shakespeare.
It was called The Theatre Playhouse. In those days "playhouse" was the generic term for such structures. Of course Burbage also built other playhouses, notably The Curtain playhouse.
