Sales were dwindling. And the body style was outdated compared to similar cars of 1997. It was made since 1987 and virtually no significant body changes. There were also reports that it was dropped for new safety regulations it would have to be significantly redesigned to pass. It wasnt worth it, so they dropped it and the corsica and introduced the new Malibu in 1997.
