Germany was more than just part of the Holocaust. Germany organized and implemented the entire campaign of genocide. Certain individuals in other countries helped the Germans to exterminate Jews, Gypsies, and political and religious dissidents. But, by and large, the vast majority of atrocities were committed by Nazis Germany.

People have spent their entire lives studying the exact causes of the Holocaust. There are many reasons. One of the primary reasons was a long history of antisemitism (hatred of Jews) in Europe and Germany which started during the Middle Ages. Adolf Hitler, who hated Jews, claimed that Germany lost World War I and had a bad economy because of the Jews. This is called scapegoating (blaming one ethnic group or person for a larger group's problems). This idea, along with Hitler's charisma, allowed him to win over the majority of the German populace. Once he was in power, Hitler set about isolating and then exterminating the Jewish population in Germany and countries Germany later conquered.
