One reason could have been his failing health, he injured his leg in a jousting accident in 1536, this never healed and stopped him exercising, he put on so much weight he could not walk and was carried every where he needed to go, he was infected with nasty pus-filled boils, and it's believed he suffered from gout which is extremely painful, all this would have made him a very grumpy old man.

King Henry the 8th was a very popular person, since he was king, but, as he turned older he became more sour and cruel, his second wife Anne, he beheaded because he was interested in another woman, and Anne could also not produce a son, only a daughter, Elisabeth, if she would have produced a son, King Henry would have respected her more, With his fifth wife, Catherine, he did the same, beheaded, because she was unfaithful and cheated on him, but nobody really knows if she really did, he used his wives like a towels, once he saw a newer prettier towel he threw the one he had away, and got the new one. And this is why he was a ruthless king.
