Actually Jesus alone was arrested, not His disciples. They fled.

Jesus was arrested for a number of reasons. The chief religious leaders of His day both believed Him to be a false teacher and also were jealous of His popularity. The former may well partly have been a cloak for the latter, or an excuse to get rid of Him..

Judas Iscariot betrayed Jesus for 30 pieces of silver. The Pharisees paid Judas to "greet Jesus" with a kiss, so they would know who to arrest. Jesus already knew he was going to betray him. He said to him "what you do, do quickely" he was refferring to Judas' betrayal to him. Jesus could have easily stopped the men from taking him, but he knew it had to be done so that they could nail him to a cross and take his life, because he loved us so much.

The people in general didn't want Jesus arrested. It was the Jewish religious leaders who sought to destroy Him because of His effect on the people.

Mark 11:18 - And the scribes and chief priests heard it and sought how they might destroy Him; for they feared Him, because all the people were astonished at His teaching.

Luke 22:2 - And the chief priests and the scribes sought how they might kill Him, for they feared the people.

Mark 14:43 - And immediately, while He was still speaking, Judas, one of the twelve, with a great multitude with swords and clubs, came from the chief priests and the scribes and the elders.

John 18:12 - Then the detachment of troops and the captain and the officers of the Jews arrested Jesus and bound Him.

Jesus Christ was arrested for claiming to be "God in flesh", which actually is the truth, but was taken to be against the Judaic law. "The Jews answered him, saying, For a good work we stone thee not; but for blasphemy; and because that thou, being a man, makest thyself God." (John 10:33).

"For UNTO US a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace. Of the increase of his government and peace there shall be no end, upon the throne of David, and upon his kingdom, to order it, and to establish it with judgment and with justice from henceforth even for ever. The zeal of the LORD of hosts will perform this." (Isa 9:6-7)

This Child born unto us IS the Son of God given unto us as The mighty God, The everlasting Father!

In the first century, if the Jews had the right to impale a person for religious reasons (a point on which there is some doubt), it is quite certain they could not do so for civil offenses; only a Roman official like Pontius Pilate had such authority. (John 18:31; 19:10) Nevertheless, the Jews, and especially their chief priests and rulers, bore the prime responsibility for Christ's impalement. (Mark 15:1-15; Acts 2:36; 4:10; 5:30; 1 Corinthians 2:8)

It was mainly because he claimed to be the son of god, and he was getting popular each day, this worried the priests.
