Julius Caesar only killed when necessary. In fact, he was known for his clemency, although some of his "clemency" could be considered self-serving. The main recorded people that he killed were the pirates that had held him captive because he had said that he would to their face, the ringleaders of the mutiny of the ninth legion and Vercingetorix, the last of the leaders of the Gauls. However in the case of Vercingetorix, it was the custom for the vanquished leader to be killed after the Roman general's triumph.
