Because the people blamed her for the financial crisis the country was in. Although she already got less money per year as former French Queens, she was Austrian, and therefor a foreigner which was unwanted on the French throne. Jealous people printed scandalous pamphlets of her, and the people believed those, even though they were ridiculous. They never saw what she did for welfare which was a lot. She even made her children donate their toys to the less privileged children, and opened orphanages and hospitals.
