many people may say that he was either the hero of the revolution or a murderous tyrant of the revolution. I believe he was a murderous tyrant, he tried to justify the mass killings if the terror as being necessary to save the revolution. He was a villian.
Robespierre was a main supporter of the Reign of Terror, which, as the name suggests, was a bloddy, violent and terrifying thing. It didn't help that he changed the state religion and, as head of the Committee of Public Safety, was believed by some to be a dictator.
Have you ever heard the "Reign Of Terror?" Well, the person behind all the damage in France was Robespierre. He did not try anything to stop it. Because of this, many people were killed in the Reign of Terror. He would execute anyone who stood against him or often criticized him, which was close to 5,000. He believed he was always correct, and his followers began to not feel so safe siding with him. He betrayed many of his allies, beheading their families. Many people began to realize that if this "bloodthirsty dictator" lived any longer, sooner or later everyone in France would be executed. Many, many people by this time despised him, taking him in to the guillotine, and he ended up being executed like Marie Antoinette and King Louis XVI. What some people did admire for is that he was not afraid to speak his mind, and people often looked up to him as a great speaker. He was honest, and that lead to a lot of trouble in France.
