I hate you. First, the Aztecs never ruled any Europena nation. They were 2 unadvanced. 2nd, the spanish encountered the Aztecs, not the french, and they conquered them and took their gold and killed 80,000 of their soldiers. So the Aztecs were unhappy with the spanish rule. French... god.

1.) Montezuma did not "start" the Aztecs. He was one of their rulers. 2.) There were 2 different Aztec rulers with this name. Montezuma I (1397-1469AD) Montezuma II (1466-1520AD)

It first started when Montezuma 2 came into power. He started to demand more tribute and sacrifices from the provinces, who naturally started to rebel.
