One was located in Santa Fe on the site of an abandoned Civilian Conservation Corps camp. So the government already had the site and it didn't cost much to build anything. The internment camp in Lordsburg was built on land that was cheaper and safer than in California. However after the Bataan Death March happened, there were people in Santa Fe went to the camp and tried to kill the prisoners but fortunately were convinced to go home.
