so he would not get caught by the british solders
He really wasn't protecting. He was sent to warn Adams and others that the British were on the march and to hide the arms they had collected. He never got there and was arrested about half-way through his ride. Two men by the names of Preston and Dawes actually got to Concord. A hundred years later Longfellow wrote his poem the "Midnight Ride of Paul Revere" and made him famous for something he didn't do. "Listen my children and you shall hear of the midnight ride of Paul Revere."
The day after Paul Revere's ride the town of Concord began moving all their military supplies out of the town. Paul had been sent to the town by Joseph Warren to warn them about rebels attacking the town.
He played one of the messengers that had met William Dawes later during the ride, who was also a messenger carrying the same message as Revere. They were both sent by the Sons Of Liberty and some patriot groups. William and Paul then met Dr. Prescott. Then the night of the midnight ride, Paul and the others got caught by the British. But Paul escaped. Then soon Paul heard the message by leaders running up and down some streets yelling, "The Regulars are out!" and then everyone was up and fighting the first revolutionary war.

Yes, they caught him before he could get to Concord. There are many inaccuracies with his famous midnight ride. Firstly, he was not the only messenger. William Dawes was also sent as a messenger and HE was the one who made it to Concord. PAul Revere only ever made it to Lexington.
New Answer:In 1775, King George III instructed General Thomas Gage, the British commander in chief in Massachusetts, to enforce order among the rebellious colonists. Joseph Warren, a patriot leader, sent Paul Revere and William Dawes to warn Samuel Adams and John Hancock in Lexington and the patriots in Concord. They arranged for a signal to be flashed from the steeple of the Old North Church in Boston. Two lanterns would mean that the British were coming by water, and one, by land. One of the main reasons Paul Revere is remembered, is because not only of his famous midnight ride. But, also, because anyone who goes to college, and majors in English or Literature has to learn about the famous poet, Henry Wadsworth Longfellow, who wrote the famous poem, "Paul Revers Ride."
