Macbeth was indeed beheaded, but it was not as a judicial sentence. He was defending his kingdom and his throne from an army of Englishmen supporting an attempt by Malcolm Canmore to take over the country. In the course of the battle, Macbeth was faced by MacDuff, who defeated him and cut off his head as part of the fight. MacDuff wanted revenge against Macbeth because he killed MacDuff's wife and son. One might say that the fact that Macbeth committed murder in order to become king led to his being beheaded, for otherwise he would very possibly never have been the king and never have had to defend his crown from an usurper.
