Russia joined the league of nations in 1934
Germany and Russia
The United States, Germany, and Russia were three major powers that were not members of the League of Nations. The League of Nations lasted from 1919 to 1946.
The league of nations failed because Germany and Russia two of the great powers in the world did not join the league of nations until later on and even then Germany left. America also didn't join the league of nations because the civillians didn't want to join.
They were a communist country and hated Britain & France.

No nation has ever been expelled from the United Nations, but Indonesia withdrew for several years.
The Soviet Union until its exile on December 14, 1939, though it remains debatable between the United Kingdom and Soviet Union. Britain, however, was easily the most powerful member after Russia was expelled.
They left in 1939 after they invaded Finland. They did not leave themselves, they were ordered to leave
The League of Nations.
Because, unlike the United Nations, it never had even close to total membership of the countries of the world. Strong nations like America and Russia not joining meant the League could not enforce its decisions. When Russia eventually joined, it then left - as did Germany. Showing that if a nation disagreed with the League, it was easy to leave, and be outside their jurisdiction. The same happened with Japan, which was even a permanent member of its Security Council, with withdrew when it was criticised for invading Manchuria.
