No one can be sure where he was born except that it must have been on the west coast of Britain. In his "Confessio" Patrick says that he was born at Bannavem Taburniæ but we dont know where that is. It must be remembered that most of the traditions that surround Saint Patrick come from later hagiography, the so-called "lives" of Patrick, which cannot be relied upon for solid historical facts as the first of these were written two centuries later and their texts reflect contemporary 7th century concerns rather tan 5th century realities.
