Whatever reason Victor was abandoned in the woods in the first place still remains a mystery. Some reports say he was illegimate or his parents were abusive (making him behave like an animal and tried to kill him and leave him for dead in the woods)-that could be why Victor never made any contact with other humans. Many reported that Victor could've been autistic (back in time what they say mentally disabled, an incurable idiot)-possibly his parents weren't able to care for him because of his abnormal behavior and lack of speech. That could've been why they chose to kill him and leave him for dead in the woods. But the real reason does remain a mystery.

When was Victor the wild boy of Aveyron found?

Victor (known as the Savage of Aveyron) was actually first spotted in the woods above a village of LaCaune France between 1797 & 1798 then was captured briefly and escaped. He was captured again in 1799 and brought back to the same village and housed by an old widow and fled to the mountains and was sighted in a small village of Tarn. On January 8, 1800 in the middle of winter, he emerged from the woods on his own-then came to a field in the outskirts of a town called Saint Sernin and was found by a man named Vidal-this time he no longer could escape from his capture. He wasn't entirely naked as he was when he was first spotted (he had shreds of shirt hanging around his neck or was found in a tattered gown).

Why did Victor the wild boy's parents abandon him?

There were a number of reasons why Victor was abandoned by his parents. He was described being abandoned in the woods by his parents at ten age of 4 or 5. Even the scar on his neck remains a mystery. When he was observed by philosophers and scientist in Paris, they decried he was mute and suffering from idiocy-that might explain why he was so difficult for Abbe Sicard to educate, why his parents tried to kill him and abandoned him in the first place. Itard was the one who denied that was true and believed he could educate him and teach him language. Itard worked with him for 5 years from 1800-1805-Victor never learned how to speak and still never learned to be social around other people his age-even young boys. It was Itard who realized that Victor was suffering mental idiocy. Some cases of how and why was he abandoned in the first place remains a mystery. Some say Victor had autism and never learned langauge, some say he was born illegitimate . Some said he was in neglect and abused and treated like an animal before he was abandoned in the woods.

Why couldn't victor of Aveyron talk?

That is a big mystery why he never did. Although he learned two words "lat" (milk) "oh, Deau" (Oh, God). It's true Victor was abandoned in the wild from human society. And at first many citizens believed that Victor was a deaf-mute even though he can hear pretty well (but never reacted to certain sounds or speech). It's true during his early captivity, he never understood speech. In Paris, Victor was examined to be mentally retarded from birth by Phillipe Pinel (a man who was an expert on mentally retarded and incurable individuals). A young medical student Itard saw a different opinion that Victor could've lived in the wild all his life and that's why he became mute. He thought because of the isolation Victor was kept in for so many years can be cured. But language can only occur in early childhood rather than in adolescence. Victor was about 12 years old when he was in the care of Itard. Some information nowadays say that Victor had severe autism and that was the reason why he never learned speech and he was never taught speech before in his time in captivity (because of the other rumors).

Why was Victor the wild boy almost killed by his parents and left in the woods in the first place?

Some reports say possibly Victor was diagnosed with autism and mute at early age and was abandoned by his parents and almost killed with a knife on his throat when he was about 4 or 5. Some reports say Victor could've been raised as illegitimate and was possibly forced away from human contact. Some say Victor could've had abusive parents and isolated him before he was left for dead in the woods. But the case remains unsolved.
