Before the 1750's, the many medical and industrial conveniences that exist today weren't present. As advanced agricultural machinery wasn't available, food production was low and a majority of the middle/lower class were experiencing malnutrition, therefore resulted in a significantly lower life expectancy. Also, certain medicines such as penicillin weren't available, meaning that a simple cold in winter would result in death.
