This in its basic terms means that the in most situations, a so-called center of gravity, is a city or territory where the strengths of an enemy resided.US President Lincoln was not a military expert, however, his common sense called for the capture of Richmond and the South's realization that it had lost a major city. A city where the Confederate government had its home.
