From my research Cleopatra was in fact, not bald. She had her own hair, as long thick dark hair was considered the beauty standard, like how most women now a day want to be the skinny pretty model. the only people to shave their heads were children (A single lock was left in the shape of an S to symbolize youth), and Priests who shaved all of their hair off, even their eyebrows as they could not afford to get lice. While every Egyptian that could afford it wore wigs back then, they still retained, and took excellent care, all of their real hair. Much like how we wear wigs on Halloween or when we dress up for fun the Egyptians did the same thing. Wearing a wig was something to be proud of, and they almost never tried to hide it.
The wigs women wore were what we would call 'half wigs' where it attaches about an inch back from the hair line, meaning that her bangs and front few inches of her hair was 100% real. Also, the wig was sewn in almost like a weave is today, where her hair would have been braided tightly, then the wig would be sewn in place to the braids, and sometimes the scalp. This method is pretty much impossible without having all, or at least most of of your own hair. Rich women like Cleopatra would have worn a different style wig every day, while less rich people would change it every 3 to 4 days, and peasants used extensions to get beautiful long, thick, gorgeous hair.
