Fighting Up-front. Fighting up-front in the fights (battles) were very violant full of alot of swords weapons and dead bodys, obviosly. and also full of blood. and some rats and flies. Rats are worst for this and cam be very disrupting Flies however, would destract and bug the battlemen and irritate the skin, so the battle field would be smelly, due to men not being able to wash without irritation
Yes. There was the unauthorized "Christmas Truce" in which the German, British, and French soldiers along the Western Front stopped fighting, and actually made friends, shaking hands, trading items, and so on.

Written by Jean-Marie Remarque it is, as I remember, a splendid book of the horrors of WW1. It was a war like no other. No war, perhaps, before or since has been so 'romantic', which is a difficult word to use about warfare.
The Eastern Front had trenches like the Western Front, but it was so large that the fighting was more mobilised, especially in Ukraine. German Uhlans and Ukranian/Russian cavalry were able to move around and fight each other.
This refers to the front from the viewpoint of Germany. The Western front would be on the French side. The Eastern Front would be the fighting against Russia. Hitler had feared a 2-front war. So he conquered France and then turned on Russia. This was his downfall.
During a war, a "front" is a place where armies are fighting battles. In World War I, most of the major battles were in Europe. So in World War I, "Western Front" refers to the front in the western portion of Europe- it was mainly in northern France, where Germany had invaded. The "Eastern Front" was in Eastern Europe, primarily around the borders between Russia and Germany/Austria-Hungary.
The Western Front was the name of the front line between the two waring sides in the First World War. Switzerland was neutral during the First World War, neither of the two waring sides were allowed to send troops into Switzerland. So there was no fighting and no front line in Switzerland.
Nothing. During the Russian Revolution, Hitler was simply a German soldier fighting on the Western Front.

During World War I, the fighting on the Western Front was especially terrible because of the inability of either side to achieve decisive results. This failure greatly prolonged the war, increasing the loss of life, property, war material, and more, to an extent never before experienced in Europe -- or perhaps anywhere.
