A:It is true that in the story of the Garden of Eden, Adam and Eve had disobeyed God and angered him, by eating the fruit of the Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil. But the story does not say that God drove them out because he was angry, but because he had no other choice.

After Adam and Eve had eaten the fruit of the Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil, they became like gods (Genesis 3:22: "And the LORD God said, Behold, the man is become as one of us..."), but had also become aware of their mortality. Knowing that they would now be tempted to eat the fruit of the Tree of Life, God drove them from the Garden of Eden and placed cherubim (sing: cherub) and a flaming sword at the entrance to keep [block] the way of the Tree of Life.

He told them not to eat its fruit from His tree. However, Satan worked his way into Eve's hesitation, and got her to eat the fruit. And she got Adam to eat the fruit too. What they commited was a sin. They stole from God's tree.

Comment:

Good answer. Not only did they break God's 8th Commandment against stealing, they broke the 10th Commandment against coveting - wanting to have knowledge and be like God. You could also conclude that they broke the 5th Commandment by not honoring the will of their Father and the 1st Commandment by putting someone/something before God. :)

What happened when Adam and Eve ate from the tree?

Sin is the process by which Adam and Eve fell by eating of the forbidden fruit. Sin is defined as the violation of God's laws. God gave Adam and Eve freedom of choice in the Garden of Eden except in one regard. Adam and Eve were told to avoid the fruit of the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil. They disobeyed God, they broke a divine law, they committed the world's first sin, and they were punished.

Why does God fear that Adam and Eve will try to eat from the Tree of Life?

A:Genesis 2:17 says that God placed a Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil in the middle of the Garden of Eden. By eating the fruit of this tree, Adam became god-like: (3:22) "now the man is become like one of us." Adam had become like the gods, except that he was still mortal. So that he would not now eat of the Tree of Life which God had also planted in the Garden of Eden, and thus become immortal, God sent Adam and Eve from the Garden and placed cherubim and a flaming sword to keep (block) the path to the Tree of Life (3:24).
