Johnny was all Dally really loved. He didn't have his family. Johnny was the Greaser he was closest to. After Johnny died, Dally couldn't accept it. All of his feelings crammed up inside of him, all of the pain from losing Johnny. It blew up inside of him.
And I also think he was really angry because the first time he helps out and does good (by helping save the kids in the burning church) something bad happens. He didn't think there was any good in the world so there was nothing worth living for.
