Life wasn't better in the past. Today we live longer, have medical care, technology like computers and more free time. Let's go back 500 years. In that time there was no electricity, the streets were muddy and dirty, people were very poor except for a few who held all the power. People walked, rode a horse, took a ship, or rode in a wagon to go anywhere. To go 30 miles one way was a 2 day trip. Superstitions were in the place of science and people didn't know how to read or write. By the time a person was 30 they were old. Many died in wars or from diseases. Women died in childbirth at young ages. Houses were drafty and heated by a fireplace with candles for light. People worked from dawn to dusk and had little time off. There were no things called weekends and few holidays. I don't think you would have liked living in the past.
