Mercutio is a loyal and quick-witted friend to Romeo in Shakespeare's play "Romeo and Juliet." He is known for his wit, humor, and his disdain for romantic love, which ultimately leads to his tragic demise.
Many movies of Romeo and Juliet have been made, and Mercutio is always a popular character. Different actors have played him differently, but always with the same manic energy and crazy sense of humour which is found in the script. John Barrymore's Mercutio from the film made in 1936 is particularly fun.
