It is a sin in Catholicism, and many other religions, because it means you'd rather watch tv, and idle, than pray to god. however, in many protestant denominations, and other religions, it is ok. it is ok in nearly all religions to accidentally miss, or to miss for a highly important happenning, like tending to a dying loved one. in the end, it all depends on the religion.
