The Battle of Quebec (September 13th 1759) was an extremly important date in history. James Wolfe (British), and Louis-Joseph, Marquis de Montcalm (French), were at battle. British had 4, 800 regulars, while the French had 4,000 regulars nad 300 militia. Both sides had fewer than 10,000 troops. Both were wounded during battle. Wold died on the field and Montcalm passed away the next morning. The British had 658 dead or wounded. The French had 644 dead or wounded. It was a decisive British victory.

At first the war went badly for the British but the defeat of the French at the Battle of Quebec was the turning point of the French and Indian War. The British defeated the French. The Treaty of Paris (1763) gave Britain control of North America (Canada, all land east of the Mississippi River). Since Spain joined the French as allies late in the war, the French were forced to give land to the Spanish. The French have no colonies left in North America. The French had Haiti down in Central America, but no colonies in North America.

There were three Battles of Quebec. The first one was fought on September 13, 1759, onto a plateau in front of the city, called The Plains of Abrahams, between Montcalm's French Army and Wolfe's British Army. It was a decisive British victory and both generals were mortally wounded on the field. Quebec surrendered on September 18, because the French Governor Vaudreil-Cavagnac fled to Montreal, despite he had still a great superiority in numbers and therefore he could indefinitely resist behind the strong fortification of the city. The second one was fought on April 27, 1760 about onto the same place, between a French Army of 8,500 men under Gen Duc Francis de Lévis and a British Army of about 4,300 men led by Gen. James Murray. The British were decisively defeated and fell back into the city, barely managing to resist until a British fleet arrived the following month, bringing reinforcements and supplies. The French retired towards Montreal. The third one was fought on December 31, 1775 , practically below the walls and into the city, when a rash two-pronged assault led by General Benedict Arnold's 600 men against the Lower Town on the north and General Richard Montgomery's 300 men on the South, was repulsed with heavy losses by the British-Canadian garrison of about 1,800 men led by General sir Guy Carleton. General Montgomery was killed, the Patriots lost about 100 men killed or wounded and 300 of them were taken prisoners. Arnold put an end to the disastrous expeditions by falling back on Lake Champlain in April of the following year.
