Berlin was divided into four sections for 1 reason.....POWER!!!!

Background Information: When World War 2 was over, the US, France, Great Britain, and Russia (Then the Soviet Union or USSR) all invaded Germany. Each country got one fourth of Germany. The problem was that Russia's portion contained Berlin, the Capital of Germany. Because of this, US, France, and Britain all decided that they would all get a portion of Berlin, so that Russia wouldn't have all the power . This caused many complications later on.

Why was berlin divided into 4 zones?

The city of Berlin was in the middle of the Soviet zone. The Soviet zone is the part of German that ended up becoming Communist East Germany. But then in the city of Berlin you had occupation as well except in the city they were called 'sectors'. And just like the Soviet zone, the Soviet sector of Berlin ended becoming East Germany (the capitol, in fact). However the American, British and French sectors in the west part of the city stayed 'free' after the whole Berlin Blockade/Airlift debacle of 1948 and ended up a part of West Germany, although the capitol was moved to Bonn, and Berlin always had special legal and political status applied.

Which German city was divided into two after world war 2?

The German city of Berlin was known as the divided city. After World War II, Berlin was split into East Berlin and West Berlin.

Before reunification what divided into East Germany and West Berlin Germany?

The division of Germany and also Berlin was a result of the Occupation of German at the end of WW2. As part of the surrender, the 4 countries of the Allied powers took control of Germany. Russia wanted to divide the country into sectors so they were in control of one sector. The British, French and US controlled the remainder of German under one sectors. Berlin was also split this way. I hope that is the answer you are looking for.

Is Berlin the capital of Poland?

Historically, Berlin was the capital of the Prussia for centuries. When Prussia led the unification of Germany, it was natural that the Prussian capital would become the capital of the newly unified country. After World War II, East Berlin remained the capital of East Germany, but it became unwieldy as a capital for West Germany because of its being an enclave in East German territory. However, when Germany reunified in 1989, Berlin was reinstated as the capital of a united Germany as a nod to the historical nature of the city.
