Because Communist North Korea, with a large and well equiped army and supported by Russia and China, invaded lightly armed South Korea with the intent of subjugating it and bringing its people under the yoke of Communist tyranny. South Korea fought back and the United States and other members of the United Nations, came to its aid. Michael Montagne

It was fought primarily because China was lost to communsim and figured that just by throwing money at it we would not stop the spread of cummunism. We also needed to prevent another nation from falling. When North Korea invaded South Korea we sent not only money but troops to stop the fall of South Korea. Thus getting the Korean War and keeping a nation free of evil communism...... also cause they could

The USA went to war in Korea for three reasons. The first reason was the 'Domino theory' - China turned Communist in 1949 and Truman feared that the next 'domino' would be Japan. The second was to undermine Communism and protect the American way of life - in 1950 the American National Security Council recommended that America start 'rolling back' Communism. Thirdly, Truman realized the USA was in a competition for world domination with the USSR.

After World War II, the U.S. and Britain set up a pro-West side in South Korea and the Soviet Union set up communism in the North. The 38th parallel divides the North and the South.

The failure to hold free elections in 1948 led to deeper divisions between the North and South.

At the Potsdam conference, the Allies decided to split up Korea (without telling them).

The Korean War began when North Korea invaded South Korea on June 25th, 1950 and was considered the first significant armed conflict of the Cold War.

These two wars were fought for pretty much the same reason. The Communists of China wanted to control these two parts of the same countries and the nationalists wanted to have their own country without the "services" or Political control from Communist China!
