How is a US Supreme Court nominee rejected?

The Senate votes to confirm or reject the Presidents' US Supreme Court nominees. If the Senate votes a simple majority, or 51% of the Senators voting (which may not include the full Senate), the nominee receives a commission; if a member of the Senate decides to filibuster to block or delay a nomination, a three-fifths (60) cloture vote is required to end the filibuster. (Senate Rule 22 changed in 1975: Prior to that time, filibusters required a two-thirds super-majority to end)If a candidate fails to receive a sufficient number of votes, his or her nomination is rejected, and the US President must nominate someone else. For more information, see Related Questions, below.

How do Supreme Court nominees get approved?

The pre-selected list of candidates is usually recommended by people in the President's political party or by members of legislation (House of Representatives and Congress) - usually it's a combination of both. After a candidate has been selected, the Senate Judiciary Committee conducts hearings (questioning) on the candidate. The hearing is meant to determine whether the candidate is qualified and suitable for the position. After the Committee reviews the nominee, they pass a recommendation to reject or confirm to the Senate floor. The Senate then votes for or against the candidate. In order to become a Supreme Court Justice, the nominee must receive a simple majority (51 votes) of the Senate, unless a group chooses to filibuster, in which case a three fifths super majority is required to complete the appointment. It is highly unlikely that a candidate will be rejected. Since 1789, the Senate has rejected 30 out of the 144 nominees, the most recent being Robert Bork in 1987.

Who approves Presidential nominations of federal court judges?

Presidential nominations of federal court judges are made with the "advice and consent" of the Senate, just as Supreme Court nominations are. The Senate must confirm the nomination by a simple majority of those voting in order for the judge to be commissioned.

Why was the league of nations unable to stop japan and Italy?

The simple fact is they were scared and did not want a second world war. After the first world war,Germany's resources were very depleted and had to build from scratch. Thus Germany did grow strong and powerful. Don't forget that Germany had more than one enemy. They were at war with America, Great Britain, Russia and many more. This was one country that is one tenth the size of America and they still held out for 6 years. So that gives you an idea of why the league of nations did not do anything at the start. Germany took over France in a matter of weeks, and I believe that even if the league of nations could have done something it would have been to late anyway. The war was inevitable. The league of nations took a lot of land from Germany and they wanted it back and one way or another, they would have gotten it. Hope I helped.
