The London Bridge which was sold, was originally built in 1820 and was no longer capable of dealing with modern traffic. It was bought by an entrepreneur, dismantled stone by stone and rebuilt in Lake Havasu City Arizona as a tourist attraction. It is rumoured that the purchaser thought that he was buying the nearby Tower Bridge - which is much more interesting - but both the buyer and seller have denied this. Many foreigners mistakenly believe that the iconic Tower Bridge is London Bridge but London Bridge is just a very boring modern bridge.
