There are two 'London' bridges London Bridge over the river Thames in London, England. There has been a bridge on this site for over 2,000 years, the current bridge was built between 1967 and 1972 and officially opened by Queen Elizabeth II on 17th March 1973. The bridge it replaced was sold McCulloch Oil Corp in the USA, the bridge was carefully dismantled and re built in Lake Havasu City, Arizona between 1968 and 1971.
This depends on which London Bridge is the subject of this question.
There have been a number of different London Bridges over the past 2000 years. In 46AD, the Romans built the first bridge across the Thames River; it was a simple wooden construction which was burnt down in 1014.
The replacement bridge was destroyed by a storm in 1091, and the next bridge after that was destroyed again by fire in 1136.
A new stone bridge was built by Peter of Colechurch between 1176 and 1209. It served as the main bridge for centuries, until increasing traffic congestion made it obvious a new bridge was required.
Engineer John Rennie started construction of the next London Bridge in 1825 and finished the bridge in 1831. However, a necessary widening process some 70 years later weakened the bridge's foundations to the point where it began sinking an inch every eight years. In 1968, it was auctioned and sold for $2,460,000 to Robert McCulloch who moved it to Havasu City, Arizona.
The current London Bridge was constructed by contractors John Mowlem from 1967 to 1972, and officially opened by Queen Elizabeth II on 16 March 1973.
This is a very good question!
LONDON, UK
First, in the UK, there is THE 'London Bridge', which, going north from Borough High Street, crosses the River Thames to get to King William Street. This bridge is between Tower Bridge to the east, and Southwark Bridge to the west.
But this bridge is not the original 'London Bridge'! The present bridge was built/opened in 1973. It was built on the site of the old London Bridge, which had been bought by a rich American and exported to Arizona, America! It is still there to this day and is a favorite tourist attraction!
In addition to these two bridges called 'London Bridge' there are many other bridges in London, UK. Tower Bridge is a London bridge, as is Southwark Bridge.
London is a big place, and across the River Thames there are more than thirty bridges, including road, rail and foot bridges. Each could be called a London bridge. Of course, in addition, there are also very many more bridges in other places in London.
---- OTHER LONDONs: There are many places called London, e.g. in the USA, Canada, and in other countries. Doubtless most of them, if not all, will have at least one bridge.
However, there is one London that definitely doesn't have a bridge, at least not as far as we know! It is the asteroidcalled '8837 London.'

The London bridge was built in Arizona in the year 1831. This is built over Lake Havasu.
The current London Bridge is a pre-stressed concrete box girder bridge.
London Bridge connects the City of London with the London Borough of Southwark.
The present London Bridge dates from 1973, not to be confused with Tower Bridge which opened in 1894.

The replacement bridge was destroyed by a storm in 1091, and the next bridge after that was destroyed again by fire in 1136. Another stone bridge served as the main bridge for centuries until, by the early 1800s, traffic congestion prompted the necessity for a new bridge. The bridge was designed by engineer John Rennie and finished in 1831. The design was superior, containing only five high arches, and constructed from strong Dartmoor granite. 70 years later, it was necessary to widen the bridge, a process which weakened the bridge's foundations to the point where it began sinking an inch every eight years. In 1968, it was auctioned and sold for $2,460,000 to Robert McCulloch who moved it to Havasu City, Arizona, where it was rebuilt brick by brick, and finally opened and dedicated on 10 October 1971.
The London Bridge had been used for letting cars go across it in the first place to get to the other side as well as for pedestrians to walk across.
It doesn't. If you are referring to London Bridge in London, it is mostly used by commuters.
London Bridge was falling down, so they made a song.
To replace the previous 19th century bridge. The John Rennie Bridge originally opened in 1831 had to widened at the beginning of the twentieth century because it could not cope with the volume of modern traffic and the bottle neck was causing congestion in London. However the widening process damaged the foundations and the bridge started sinking an inch every eight years, in the end one end became 4 inches lower than the other. Eventually in 1973 a new bridge was opened the old one having been sold to an American entrepreneur Robert McCulloch who reconstructed it in Arizona as part of a theme park.
The present bridge is a pre-stressed concrete box girder bridge.
No. London Bridge is a box girder concrete bridge and has never been a cantilever bridge. You may be thinking about Tower Btidge - which people sometimes confuse with London Bridge. Tower Bridge is a combined suspension and bascule bridge.
The current (1973) bridge is 269 metres long and 32 metres wide.
The first bridge was built by the Romans nearly 2000 years ago.
