The Second Triumvirate is the official political alliance of Octavian (later known as Augustus), Marcus Aemilius Lepidus, and Mark Antony, formed on 26 November 43 BC with the enactment of the Lex Titia. Unlike the earlier First Triumvirate, the Second Triumvirate was an official legally established institution.
There were two triumvirates, one official and one unofficial. Because a triumvirate consisted of three men, the three could act to further each others' goals. The first triumvirate was unofficial and it consisted of Caesar, Pompey and Crassus. While Caesar was away in and Gaul, Crassus and Pompey were the consuls who looked after Caesar's interests in Rome. this was pure politics with each man helping the other and himself.
The second triumvirate was an official one, appointed by the senate to track down and punish Caesar's murders. It consisted of Lepidus, Antony and Octavian.
they could not find a way to choose one empor so they chose 3
The second triumvirate was formed for the expressed purpose of tracking down and punishing Caesar's assassins.

The second triumvirate never really got along. Antony and Octavian clashed from the minute Octavian entered Rome to claim his inheritance. Once they had defeated Caesar's murders, and eased Lepidus out of the picture, Octavian and Antony formed an uneasy alliance which finally ended in the civil war which brought Octavian to supreme power.

Yes, but not immediately after Caesar's death. He had a wrangle with Octavian and only when those issues were settled and the second triumvirate was formed did he rule the eastern part of the empire.Yes, but not immediately after Caesar's death. A triumvirate is a group of three men. The second triumvirate was made up of Lepidius, Octavian and Marc Antony. It was officially sanctioned by the senate and its mandate was to track down and punish Caesar's killers. It is called the "second" triumvirate because previously Caesar, Pompey and Crassus had formed what historians call the first triumvirate, although the first one was not a legally sanctioned body, it was just three politicians conniving to promote their own interests.A triumvirate is a group of three men. We don't know the names of the actual first triumvirate. Triumvirate only means "three men", and it was a committee that the senate appointed to investigate certain problems and to come up with ideas for a solution. However the triumvirate that is commonly known as the "First Triumvirate" consisted of Caesar, Crassus and Pompeii. It was not formal nor official, it was simply three men working for each others interests.
