A steam boat could cross it in just 9 hours. The Panama was a man made canal with several locks in the water.

Well they took a large portion of the moneys made by the canal i think the contract said 20 years but im not sure...then when the contract was almost up the us removed general Noriega from power so the coild keep on taking more money...
