700 soldiers of the British Army had been ordered to Concord to take possession of a rebel arms depot. The rebels had been tipped off and were waiting for them. What I have found was the Battle of Lexington and Concord at first were forces from Britain and the Colonies facing each other without fighting. There is a POSSIBILITY that the famous "shot fired heard round the world" that began the battle and the war was actually a hunter in the nearby forest which triggered nervous soldiers into battle.

Fighting broke out at Lexington because colonial militiamen encountered British troops. The British were heading to Lexington to arrest Sam Adams and John Hancock. The colonists were forewarned of the British troops advancing, and went to stop them.
