The Battle of Hastings was fought because William the Conquer believed that he had a right to the English throne. He invaded England in 1066 from Normandy, France. Harold Godwinson, the king of Anglo-Saxon England, had to rush his troops down to meet with Williams' after they defeated the Vikings in Northern England. They were very tired and at a disadvantage so William beat him and declared himself king.
