He only briefly passed through China and he had no objectives with any of the people he came across. Besides, there was nothing for China to learn from Europe. Europe just barely emerged from the Dark Ages and Marco was one of their first explorers.
Marco Polo was the son of a Venetian trader. He spent almost twenty years in China, where he was employed by the Emperor Kublai Khan. When Marco Polo returned to Europe, his story was published as The Travels of Marco Polo. His book encouraged explorers to find new routes to the graet wealth of the East.
Marco Polo believed he can write the history of China under the life of the Mongols living with Kublai Khan and his armies. :)
