The Siege of Leningrad resulted in what?
The siege of Leningrad last approximately 1000 days. The end result of this was the murder of over 1,000,000 civilians. Most died of starvation and disease. Most of the city was destroyed by the Luftwaffe and by constant shelling by the German and Finnish armies. Lake Lagoda was the only way to get supplies to the city especially in the winter when the lake froze over. It wasn't until 1944 that the siege was finally lifted. It would be years of rebuilding before the city really came back to life! Fortunately, much of the architecture splendour of the city survived like the Winter Palace and the Hermitage Museum.
