it was important because dred scott a slave sued the supreme court cause his former owner toook him up north just for teasing dred than when they turned around to go back home his owner died on the way in his will he had to be sent to his widower his wife than dred went to court to sue that "since he was taken in to free states he was now a free african-american" but than the supreme court said "okay that true but your owner had the right to take you anywhere he wanted since he owned him" after that had been said they debated and said only a civilian can sue since they thought low about dred he wasnt even consider a human being just porperty.. after that he was never freed until he died.
