The Tea act was passed by the British Parliament in 1773 to reduce the tax on tea shipped to the colonies. The Tea Act of 1773 was one of many measures imposed on the American colonists by the indebted British government. The main purpose of the Tea Act was to help out the faltering East India Company, a key factor in the British economy. The British government granted the company sole control (monopoly) on tea being imported and sold in the colonies. The colonists had never accepted the fact that there was a high tax on tea and the Tea Act reignited their disagreement with it. Their resistance ended in the Boston Tea Party on December 16, 1773, where colonists boarded East India Company ships and dumped their tea overboard. Parliament was very angry and set up a series of harsh measures meant to stop Colonial resistance to British rule; two years later the American Revolutionary War began. On April 27, 1773, the British Parliament passed the Tea Act. Its purpose was to save the East India Company from bankruptcy by removing all duties on tea shipped, making the price of British tea much lower than the colonial tea price.
Gandhi was a good man he is the man who was extremely angry. He had a lot of anger but the anger was channeled towards something that helped society. It is a well known fact that he beat his wife but that does not make him a bad person. If he didn't have the anger in him India would have been a very different place. I have noticed it often that angry men are great philosophers as they think about their disputes they creatively find ways to undermine the other person. Gandhi just used these techniques on the British. Also Martin Luther King Jr. was a angry man. Many other people who were social activist were more than likely to have been angry as they channeled their anger to something good. It was anger and annoyance that made them step up and do what they did. This is answer is an opinion, I guess only Gandhi could honestly answer your question.

First, some background information. Singapore then was under the rule of the Johor Sultan, Abdul Rahman. His elder brother, Tengku Hussein did not become the Sultan after their father died because Abdul Rahman was by their father's side at his death and people decided to make him Sultan. Tengku Hussein had no choice but to go and live in Riau. Then Raffles learnt about it and he simply reinstated Tengku Hussein as Sultan and signed a treaty with him to let the British use Singapore. (NOTE: Abdul Rahman is under the influence of the Dutch who were the British's rivals hence Raffles could not ask Abdul Rahman to sign a treaty as the answer is surely a no and the Dutch will go and claim it.) The Dutch were angry that the British had not asked for their consent to claim Singapore. Furthermore, they find it illegitimate and hence threatened to use force to claim Singapore. They also offered to give up their ports in India. (NOTE: They do not have air transport then, so strategic locations really matter for trade. Singapore was located right in the center of the Malay Archipelago and on the China-India tea-opium trade route. Very strategic for trade).
