If you are talking about the movie where KITT was changed into a red car it was because in the story line the original black Trans Am had been disassembled due to Michael Knight's retirement. If you are referring to the new TV series where KITT is now the Knight Industries Three Thousand the car is a Ford Mustang KR designed by Carroll Shelby. Two reasons for this latest development. First, in the movie from 2008 in the opening sequence you see in the garage the back bumper from the original KITT. Yeah, disassembled again. The other reason is that Ford Motor Company is the main sponsor of the show, not to mention the fact that there is no longer a current year Pontiac Trans Am.
They are most likely to be looking at the rider.
The original KITT was a 1982 Pontiac Trans Am.In Knight Rider 2000 the Knight 4000 was an unspecified make and model, but the equipment later had to be put into a 1957 Chevrolet Bel Aire.In the 1994 movie Knight Rider 2010, the car is a custom build.. although called a Mustang, it's actually built on a Thunderbird chassis.KITT as shown in the 2008 movie and TV series is a ridiculous looking 2008 Ford Mustang Shelby GT5000, decked out to look like some ricer kid's car.
