The quest of European nations to find a sea route to the riches of the Far East was the first reason that Spain, England, France, Portugal and the Netherlands "landed" upon a new Hemisphere ( the "Western Hemisphere or the New World" ).
This "new" world was already occupied for thousands of years by "Native American" peoples who many scientists believe originated from Asia.
So yes, for Europeans, the Continents of North & South America were new to Europe but "home" to millions of Native Americans for thousands of years.
