Slaves so obtained were then transported from Africa to the New World where they were sold. This was the second passage of the cycle and became known as the Middle Passage. The profit from the sale of the slaves was then reinvested in goods from the New World which were taken back to Europe and exchanged for whatever medium of exchange was being used in Africa at the moment. This was the third passage. At this point the entire vicious cycle repeated.
