Greece was one of the biggest empires the world has ever seen. Many important innovations that shaped the human race and help us to arrive to our point came from greece. The word "glory" is applied to Greece because, Greece was the home of the Olympics and the country had many philosophers and scientists who contributed to the knowledge of the world so it only natural that the word glory is applied to them. It is related to the word "to hear" and carries the implied meaning of "what others hear about you".
